Background

In 2008, Rebecca started misplacing her handbag, her keys, and where she parked the car. After losing her job and subsequent jobs for “making too many mistakes”, she lost all confidence and starting seeing a psychiatrist. Initially diagnosed with depression, it became evident as her condition rapidly deteriorated that something had been missed. In late 2009 Rebecca and Scott received the worst possible news when Rebecca was diagnosed with degenerative Alzheimer’s.

The couple already face many hurdles. In essence without Scott giving up his job, selling their home and using all of his superannuation, Rebecca is ineligible for a pension. At 31, Rebecca is too young to enter a care facility that cannot cater for her or her baby. Rebecca is already unable to care for herself and is expecting her baby in April. Her condition will steadily worsen over the coming two years.

The social club’s goal is to enable Scott to manage this extremely difficult time in his life with as little financial stress as possible.
